The University of Texas System, in partnership with the UTeach Institute at U. T. Austin, seeks proposals through a competitive Request for Proposal process from U.T. institutions of higher education to implement teacher preparation programs based on UTeach. All U. T. institutions are invited to participate in this opportunity and are eligible to receive travel funding for their representatives to attend the UTeach Institute Conference on May 20-22, 2008 in Austin. Travel allocation will be up to $2,000 per institution. All interested institutions are then invited to complete the UTeach Institute’s pre-proposal as described in this RFP. The pre-proposal is due June 30, 2008.
The UTeach Institute will review and provide feedback for all pre-proposals and select up to three institutions by July 31, 2008 to receive planning funds, which will enable them to complete the Institute’s full proposal. Selected institutions will receive up to $43,000 per institution for the following:
Selected institutions will provide a budget with their pre-proposal that accurately reflects summer salary and travel estimates. Half of the $43,000 will be made available to selected institutions in August 2008; the other half will be paid upon completion of the full proposal, due by December 31, 2008.
The UTeach Institute will provide consulting and support to the three selected institutions completing the full proposal from August through December 2008, including access to Institute materials, course observations at U. T. Austin, and a site visit to be conducted by Institute staff in Fall 2008.
It should be noted that the UTeach Institute will not provide feedback on the full proposal. However, U. T. System Institute for Public School Initiatives staff, with training from the UTeach Institute, will provide feedback for the full proposal as part of this process. All institutions should also understand that there is no guaranteed grant funding at this time for full UTeach replication. However, institutions that do complete the full proposal will be in an excellent position to obtain any available funding from local, state or national sources.
